Wire Rope Lubrication Types
When selecting a wire rope lubricant, it is important to understand the two primary lubricant categories.
1. Penetrating Lubricants
Penetrating lubricants are formulated to penetrate through the outer strands and reach the rope core. This helps lubricate internal wires, reduce internal friction, and minimise wear from strand movement.
2. Coating Lubricants
Coating lubricants create a durable protective barrier on the rope surface. They provide excellent resistance to corrosion, water washout, environmental contaminants, and extreme pressures while continuing to penetrate and protect the rope structure.
3. Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant
Viper EAG-2 Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) is an environmentally friendly, synthetic, high-performance lubricant designed for Wire Rope Applications.
How to Choose the Right Wire Rope Lubricant
Selecting the correct lubricant depends on several factors:
- Rope Size: The diameter and construction of your rope will influence the most suitable lubrication method and lubricant viscosity.
- Rope Core Type: Different rope cores require different lubrication characteristics to achieve effective penetration and long-term protection
